Multicounty Grand Jury to Conclude Probe (May 17, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma's multicounty grand jury is wrapping up a three-day investigation.

Attorney General Scott Pruitt's office says the panel will recess on Thursday. It convened on Tuesday to investigate local criminal matters as well as matters of state interest.

The nature of the grand jury's investigation has not been made public. Grand jurors hear testimony two or three days a month and all proceedings are behind closed doors.

Since convening in January 2011, the grand jury has returned 17 indictments in cases filed in Cleveland, Harper, McClain, Pittsburg and Oklahoma counties.

The multicounty grand jury has jurisdiction to investigate criminal matters in all 77 Oklahoma counties.

The previous grand jury concluded in September 2010. It issued 10 indictments while assisting 145 federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
