Wind Farm to Open in Central OK (May 24, 2012)

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Apex Wind Energy Inc. says a 300-megawatt wind farm in Oklahoma Is expected to begin commercial operations late this year.

Charlottesville, Va.-based Apex said Wednesday in a news release that it has begun construction of the $470 million Canadian Hills Wind project outside Oklahoma City.

Apex says Canadian Hills will be Oklahoma's largest wind farm. It will generate enough electricity to power about 100,000 homes.

Apex sold the project to Atlantic Power Corp. in March but it retains a minority ownership interest. Apex will manage the construction.

Nearly 200 people will be employed during construction. Apex says 15 to 20 workers will be hired to manage the wind farm's operations.
