State House Passes DHS Resolution (May 25, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma House of Representatives has passed a resolution telling the state Department of Human Services to keep open two centers for the developmentally disabled that DHS has considered closing.

The resolution approved Friday directs DHS not to close the Northern Oklahoma Resource Center in Enid and the Southern Oklahoma Resource Center in Pauls Valley. The centers provide services to some of the state's most severely disabled residents.

DHS has considered closing the facilities in an effort to save money and to transfer the residents to community-based care centers.

A House analysis has estimated that the two facilities are in need of about $30 million in repairs
