Storms Strike Central Oklahoma (May 29, 2012)

Tornado sirens sounded in many communities in the Oklahoma City metro as severe storms moved through the area. Very large hail and strong, damaging winds swept across central parts of the state Tuesday evening.

Wind gusts of around 50 miles per hour were reported. More than 60,000 OG&E customers were without power at the height of the storm.

Hail the size of tennis balls pounded homes and cars. There were initial reports of many broken vehicle windshields and home windows.

A storm spotter reported a tornado near Richland, northwest of Oklahoma City, but there were no initial reports of damage from the twister. A tornado warning was allowed to expire at 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters say more severe storms are possible tomorrow.
