Sullivan's Vote Record Questioned in Debate (Jun 04, 2012)

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - U.S. Rep. John Sullivan's (R-OK) opponent is calling the incumbent Republican's vote attendance record "abysmal" during the 10 years Sullivan's been in Congress.

The accusation by Navy pilot Jim Bridenstine came Monday during the first debate between him and Sullivan on radio station KFAQ.

Bridenstine claims Sullivan's missed 679 of 7,650 votes, which is 9 percent and much higher than the 2.4 percent median of missed votes among lawmakers. Sullivan says he missed votes after one of his children passed away and during his stay at the Betty Ford Center in California to treat alcoholism in 2009.

The hour-long debate got so out of control at some points that the moderator shut off both candidates' microphones.

Bridenstine is challenging Sullivan in the June 26 Republican primary.
