Indian Times: The play "Te Ata" to be peformed at OCU (Jun 09, 2012)

Te Ata would take the stage dressed in her Indian clothes to tell her audiences about Native American history and culture through stories about her Chickasaw tribe and other indigenous peoples.  The Chickasaw Nation and Oklahoma City University are collaborating to present a play based on the life and legacy of Te Ata this month.  The playwright, herself a Chickasaw, Judylee Oliva, had the privilege to meet Te Ata before her death in 1995.  She brings a unique understanding to the play and who this remarkable woman was.

The play will be presented June 14 through the 17th and June 21st thru the 24 at Oklahoma City University, for more information call the OCU Theatre Department.  After the Oklahoma City performance, the play will travel to Washington D.C. and will be performed at the National Museum of the American Indian July 5th thru the 8th.
