OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Even though graduation gowns have long been packed away, hundreds of Oklahoma high school students are still working to earn diplomas.

This is the first year in which students must pass end-of-instruction exams in four subjects, including algebra I and English II. If students don't pass, their college financial aid and military careers are at risk.

Oklahoma had more than 39,000 high school seniors last year, but during the spring testing period about 2,000 students hadn't yet completed their exams. Some districts are offering summer programs to shore up academic lessons, and students have until July 27 to pass their tests.

If they fail, they can re-enroll in high school but must wait until December to take the tests again.
