Norman Underpass Project to Open (Jul 10, 2012)

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Officials plan to open part of an underpass project in Norman to traffic this week.

Public Works Director Shawn O'Leary says all four lanes of Robinson Street and a continuous sidewalk for pedestrians on the south side of the road will be open Wednesday morning. Work on intersections at Flood Street and Stubbeman Avenue haven't been finished.

Crews have been working on the $25 million bond issue project since June 2010. It routes traffic under a railroad crossing.

Officials have said the project's goal is to provide better flow for east-west traffic and eliminate delays for vehicles headed to Norman Regional Hospital.

The Flood Street portion of the project is expected to be completed by Sept. 1, and the Stubbeman Avenue portion is expected to be done by Oct. 1.
