Judge Schedules Trial For Tulsa Shooter (Jul 18, 2012)

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - A judge has set an Aug. 13 competency trial to determine whether the man charged with opening fire outside the Tulsa County courthouse is fit to stand trial.

Andrew Dennehy is charged with shooting with intent to kill and two weapons counts in connection with the March shootings that injured a Tulsa County sheriff's deputy and a bystander.

He was due in court for a preliminary hearing Wednesday. The Tulsa World reports that prosecutors requested a trial on the issue of Dennehy's mental health.

Dennehy's attorneys say in court records that a defense psychologist's report notes that Dennehy is exhibiting psychotic symptoms marked by delusions of persecution. The report recommends he be found incompetent to stand trial and that he receive treatment at a state mental hospital.
