Reproductive Rights Group Issues Legislative Report (Jul 19, 2012)

An international organization says Oklahoma is one of 15 states that passed some 40 laws harmful to reproductive rights. A report from the Center for Reproductive Rights says state legislatures enacted 40 laws that were anti-abortion, anti-family planning proposals in the past year. The center has been successful in blocking legislation in Oklahoma courts that would restrict access to abortions.

Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt is appealing a judge’s decision to stop a law that would require a woman seeking an abortion to have an ultrasound and have its findings describe to her.

The state chairman of Oklahomans for Life says the group sees legislation enacted this year as “protective of women’s health and rights to full and complete information before an abortion.” A local advocate for the Center for Reproductive Rights says the organization is constantly fighting bad laws “intended to harm Oklahoma over and over again.”
