OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The National Climatic Data Center reports 64 high temperature records were broken or tied in Oklahoma during July and more are possible as August begins.

Eleven record highs were set and two tied Tuesday _ the final day of the month. More records were possible Wednesday _ including in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

Chandler _ about 45 miles northeast of Oklahoma _ tied its record high of 109 degrees set in 1923 as of 1 p.m. Wednesday while Oklahoma City and Tulsa both reported 106. The National Weather Service reports the record for both cities is 110 degrees.

Associate state climatologist Gary McManus said the hottest average temperature in Oklahoma is 94.9 degrees. He said that Aug. 12, 1936, record likely won't fall _ but it could be approached.
