Indian Times: Long Time Broadcaster Keith Vasquez (Aug 06, 2012)

Keith Vasquez, a member of the Kiowa Nation of Oklahoma, is also its Public Relations Officer.  I first met Vasquez a couple of months ago when he was in Norman delivering copies of the Kiowa News.  He wears many hats, and one of those is radio producer.  Vasquez stopped by the KGOU studios to talk about what got him interested in radio, and when you hear his voice, you’ll know why he’s been around for quite a while.

Vasquez talks about how he always wanted to be a “deejay” and that he evened turned down a scholarship to OU in order to find training to be in radio.  But he has no regrets and has had a thirty year career in radio, and is proud of the summer programs that the Kiowa Nation offers to students to help them find what field or discipline they’d like to pursue.  Currently, he produces the radio show “Kiowa Voices”, heard on KACO 98.5fm in Anadarko.  Vasquez gives an update on the annual American Indian Exposition in Anadarko, which this year will be August 8-11th at the Caddo Country Fairgrounds. He’ll be broadcasting live the opening day parade on Wednesday, August 8th.
