OKC Mosque Hit by Paintballs (Aug 13, 2012)

The Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations is calling on state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate a paintball attack on an Oklahoma City mosque as a hate crime. A news release from CAIR-OK says vandals fired numerous paintballs at the doors of the Grand Mosque of Oklahoma City early Sunday. The mosque's director first thought bullets were being fired, according the statement. Oklahoma City police are investigating the incident. which was caught on video.

CAIR-OK Executive Director Adam Soltani says he wants the FBI to join with state law enforcement authorities in the investigation of what he calls, "a hate crime targeting an American house of worship." Soltani says the growing number of attacks like this should be of concern to religious and political leaders across the country. He says they have an important role to play in challenging anti-Muslim rhetoric in the United States.
