2nd District Race Heats Up (Aug 20, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - New campaign accusations are heating up the Democratic runoff in Oklahoma's 2nd Congressional District with just one week to go before the election.

A new television ad produced by Wayne Herriman's campaign questions the record of opponent Rob Wallace when Wallace served as district attorney of Leflore and Latimer counties. The ad claims criminals went free to commit more violent crimes because Wallace didn't do his job.

Herriman says voters need to know Wallace's record as a prosecutor. But Wallace campaign manager Kyle Gott says the ad is a desperate attack by a desperate campaign that is trying to distort Wallace's record.

Gott says Herriman has refused to debate the issues with Wallace and is instead hiding behind his campaign's rhetoric. The runoff between Wallace and Herriman is Aug. 28.
