Enid Criticizes Standard Test Policies (Aug 21, 2012)

ENID, Okla. (AP) - Members of the Enid Public Schools Board of Education say an overabundance of standardized testing is getting in the way of students' education.

The board unanimously approved a resolution Monday night that says the number of tests students are required to take gets in the way of child-centered learning and limits meaningful learning.

The resolution calls on the Legislature to re-examine Oklahoma's system of public school accountability.

The Enid News & Eagle reports that copies of the resolution will be given to area legislators.

Board member Cheryl Patterson says the standardized tests takes away creativity from both students and teachers. The non-binding resolution calls for instruction that emphasizes innovation, creativity, critical thinking and problem solving.
