USAF Officer's Remains Found in Laos (Sep 11, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The remains of a U.S. Air Force officer missing for 44 years have been identified and will be returned to the state for burial with full military honors.

The Oklahoman reports that services for Lt. Col. Clarence Blanton of El Reno will be Saturday.

The Department of Defense says Blanton was 46 when he and 10 other Americans disappeared from a Laotian mountaintop after North Vietnamese soldiers overran an air navigation radar site on March 11, 1968.

The remains that were identified as Blanton's were found with the help of a Laotian citizen. The remains were identified with the help of DNA from Blanton's sister.
