Former DHS Worker Faces Wire Charges (Sep 17, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Authorities say a former Oklahoma Department of Human Services worker faces federal wire charges after she allegedly took more than $27,000 in disability payments intended for a nursing home patient who had died.

Authorities say Katharine A. Daugherty did not inform the federal government that the man had passed away. The Journal Record reports that Daugherty became the man's court-appointed guardian after he came under DHS care and was admitted to a Bethany nursing home in 2009.

Daughtery's attorney, Irven Box, says his client has agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors in which she will plead guilty to the charges and make restitution payments. She's due in court Wednesday.

Box says his client has accepted responsibility for what she did and that she acknowledged it was wrong.
