Secular Group Recruits Lobbyists in Oklahoma (Oct 08, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A group that works to preserve the separation of religion and government is recruiting volunteers in Oklahoma to lobby legislators.

The Secular Coalition for America is seeking help for the coming legislative session to pursue its cause of trying to block religion based laws.

The Oklahoman reports that a group spokesman says some of the most extreme attempts at inserting religion into legislation occur at the state level. Organizers are holding a conference call on Wednesday in the hope of lining up volunteers for the 10-year-old nonprofit group.

Republican Rep. Sally Kern of Oklahoma City says she supports separation of church and state but says religious lawmakers also have to vote their consciences.
