Indian Times: OKC Indian Clinic has Thanksgiving spirit (Nov 16, 2012)

The Oklahoma City Indian Clinic is much more than just a place for Native Americans to see a doctor, at this time of year it means celebration, celebration of a holiday that is both uniquely American and American Indian.  With that in mind, the staff puts together a giveaway to those that need it most, native families that might not have everything they need. David Toahty (Pawnee/Kiowa/Creek) is the Chief Development Officer at the Clinic and has seen the need closeup.  We discuss the history of the clinic and its "giveaways"...turkey & all the fixin's at Thanksgiving...winter coat giveaway to kids in December along with a toy drive to make sure the kids have something under their trees. For more information go to www.okcic.com.

Ojibwe author Louise Erdrich has won the National Book Award for her book The Round House, she received the in New York City on Wednesday and accepted it "in recognition of the grace and endurance of Native women."
