![]() ![]() This week’s events revolve around Thanksgiving and the coming of Christmas and the winter time. The Sooner Theatre doesn’t miss a beat celebrating the Christmas season by bringing a holiday film classic to the stage immediately following Thanksgiving. The musical “White Christmas” opens November 23rd in Norman. The plot revolves around two WWII army veterans turned performers looking for romance who decide to follow a sister singing duo en route to their Christmas concert. The cast sings seventeen Irving Berlin songs. Performances continue through December 9th. The West Wind Unitarian Universalist Congregation gives shoppers the opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts from local artists during its Winter Thyme Bazaar Art Market on November 24th. From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., fine art including jewelry, ceramics, fabric art, paintings and prints, glass art, books and more will be on sale. The Norman Bell Dance group also performs and shoppers are asked to bring donations of paper towels, toilet paper, and tissue paper for the Family Violence Shelter. The Norman Philharmonic raises money for a local non-profit during its “A Simple Gift Concert” at the McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman on November 25th at 3:00 p.m. Dr. Z directs the orchestra in performing “Brandenburg Concerto No. 2” by Bach, “Eine kleine Nachtmusik, Serenade in G Major” by Mozart, and other works by Hanson, Copland, and Ives. The concert ends with a Christmas Carol finale. Proceeds from the concert benefit the Food and Shelter Inc. Thanksgiving events of interest: Family – Community Run; the 13th Annual OKC Turkey Trot Classic AAA’s Tipsy Tow Service for the Thanksgiving Weekend Additional events of interest: Marc Heitz Chevrolet opens its Norman Outdoor Holiday Ice Rink for the wintertime on November 23rd. Science Museum Oklahoma holds tours of the 1929 Pullman Parlor Car beginning November 23rd. The car is on display through January 6th. The University of Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra is comprised entirely of students and takes on work regularly performed by professional orchestras during its concert on the OU campus November 27th. The City Arts Center holds a fundraiser for its Ceramics Studio called the Annual Pottery Sale and Open House on November 27th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The evening includes live demonstrations.
