Two Oklahoma Soldiers Awarded Purple Heart (Dec 03, 2012)

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (AP) - Two Oklahoma National Guard soldiers have been awarded the Purple Heart.

The Tulsa World reports that Sgt. Jay Silk and Cpl. Scotty Hopper received the medals at the Broken Arrow Armed Forces Reserve Center on Sunday after they were injured last year in Afghanistan.

Sgt. 1st Class Nicholas Jones is one of the leaders of the 45th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. He says it's taken a long time to get the awards to the men, but he said they wanted to have families involved because the company is a big family.
