Governors Ask for Flexibility in Fiscal Cliff Deal (Dec 05, 2012)

WASHINGTON - Gov. Mary Fallin met with President Obama Tuesday as part of a bipartisan group of governors that want to make sure that any cuts in spending to address the looming ``fiscal cliff'' would not shift the financial burden onto states.

Fallin is the Vice Chair of the National Governors Association.

She met with the President Tuesday morning along with two GOP and three Democratic governors. Fallin says the governors want more flexibility from the federal government on mandated programs to allow them to do more with less.

Fallin called the states "laboratories" for democracy and government reform, and said some state practices suggested by the governors to Congress and the President could be helpful during the negotiating process.
