Morgan Witness Sentenced to Home Detention (Dec 10, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A key prosecution witness in the bribery case against a former state senator has been sentenced to home detention and to pay $1.3 million restitution in an unrelated fraud case.

Sam Crosby of Carney was sentenced last week after pleading guilty in 2010 to making a false statement about cattle purchases in order to influence a bank loan. Sentencing was delayed until after he testified in the trial of former Senate leader Mike Morgan that he paid Morgan for help with legislation involving nursing homes.

Crosby's attorney - John Coyle - told The Oklahoman that the sentence is fair.

Morgan was convicted in March of taking $12,000 in bribes from a company owned by Crosby. Defense attorneys say Crosby lied to get leniency in his own criminal case.
