School Security Panel Announced (Dec 20, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma legislative leaders say they will create a panel of experts on school security to make recommendations to the Legislature on how to improve school safety.

Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb and leaders of the Oklahoma House and Senate held a news conference Thursday at the state Capitol to announce the formation of the Oklahoma Commission on School Security.

Lamb, a former Secret Service agent, will chair the committee. Although the exact makeup of the commission hasn't been determined, Lamb says he expects it will include members of law enforcement, emergency responders, school teachers and administrators, and mental health experts.

Senate President Pro Tem Brian Bingman says the goal of the panel is to make recommendations to lawmakers for the 2013 legislative session, which begins in February.
