Trans. Director Announces Retirement Plans (Dec 21, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Longtime Oklahoma Department of Transportation Director Gary Ridley says he plans to retire in March, but remain secretary of transportation in Gov. Mary Fallin's cabinet.

Ridley announced Friday that he plans to step down as director of both ODOT and the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority.

Ridley has worked with ODOT for 44 years and was first appointed director of the agency in 2001 under former Gov. Frank Keating. He continued in that post under former Gov. Brad Henry and Fallin. He started with the agency as an equipment operator in 1965.

Under his administration, ODOT worked with lawmakers to develop an eight-year construction plan to address what are considered the most pressing long-term highway needs and to repair and replace the most structurally deficient bridges.
