States Rights Committee Delays Vote (Feb 12, 2013)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma's newly formed House States Rights Committee has cancelled its hearing for a bill that would call for a balanced budget amendment to the United States Constitution.

The committee was scheduled to meet Tuesday on Midwest City Republican Gary Banz's proposal that Oklahoma support a proposal by conservatives that the federal government not be able to spend more each year than it takes in revenue.

The office of committee Chairman Lewis Moore said the bill and another related bill also from Banz were ``laid over,'' or postponed. Banz was not available for comment after apparently leaving for the day.

Oklahoma would become the thirtieth state to call for a constitutional convention to formulate a balanced budget amendment if Banz's proposal passes.
