OSU Awards Honorary Doctorate (Mar 01, 2013)

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) - The Oklahoma State University/A&M Board of Regents has voted to award an honorary doctor of science degree to retired astronaut and U.S. Air Force General Thomas Stafford.

The regents met Friday in Stillwater.

Stafford is a native of Weatherford who flew two Gemini space flights and commanded Apollo 10. He was also commander of the joint U.S.-Soviet space mission that connected the Apollo and Soyuz space vehicles in 1975.

Stafford was also an Air Force pilot and later served as commander of the Air Force Flight Test Center.

He is now retired and lives in Florida.
