The Minstrel Show (Feb 19, 2009)
Oklahoma City University's theatre department presents "The Minstrel Show, or The Lynching of William Brown," Max Sparber's take on the 1919 Omaha Race Riot that left the title character dead after being hanged, shot, and burned. "The Minstrel Show" serves to remind performers and audiences about the history of black lynchings and their horrifying legacy in America. The show opens Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Black Box Theatre on the OCU campus at 2501 N. Blackwelder. Performances continue 8 p.m. February 20 and 21, along with a 2 p.m. showing Saturday as well. The Oklahoma Gazette's Joe Wertz has this report.
