War Starkly Animated in 'Waltz with Bashir' (Feb 26, 2009)
Documentary film director Ari Folman was 19 years young when he served as an infantryman during Israel’s 1982 invasion of Lebanon. To reconcile his own memories of the event, and illustrate the fragmented terror of that war, Folman reconstructed an accounting from fellow ex-solders who also served for the Israeli Army in the 1980s. The impact of these testimonies in "Waltz With Bashir" is made even more dramatic by stark animation which makes for what film critic, David Edelstein (New York Magazine) describes as a "fluid boundary between the real and surreal". The Oklahoma Gazette's Joe Wertz has this report.
