Some 'Sketchy' Artwork (Nov 12, 2009)
Figure drawing is the process of drawing the human figure often from observation of a live model. Movies have often depicted a stereotypical classroom setting wherein art students sit silently and attempt to bring to life their generally bored and frozen subject. This week, the Oklahoma Gazette's Joe Wertz, introduces us to an entirely different approach to figure drawing! Dr. Sketchy's is an evening art event that takes unconventional models and puts them at the center of a sketching class organized as part performance and party. The class borrows some of the more academic elements, like one-minute gesture drawings that progress into a series of 20-minute poses, but, intersperse those with more unorthodox elements like burlesque-styled performances by the model, music and games - drinking or otherwise. Texas pinup, Vivenne Vermuth, will lead a James Bond themed Dr. Sketchy's event from 6 to 10 p.m. this Sunday, at the Individual Artists of Oklahoma Gallery. Joe tells us more...
