Indian Times: Native church burns down (Mar 01, 2008)
On Indian Times this weekend Susan Shannon speaks with Pastor Darryl Tiger about the burning of the Sallateeska Baptist Church, a rural Native American church serving the Shawnee and Tecumseh areas. The Native American Journalists Association?s Executive Director Jeffrey Harjo speaks about the upcoming UNITY conference in Chicago July 23-27. Student applications are due by March 31st. Also discussed are the resignations of two native newspaper editors who claimed censorship by their tribal leaders. And a Cherokee student at Sequoyah Indian High School near Tahlequah was named Quarterback of the Year. His name is Nathan Stanley, and we hear from his coach, Brent Scott.
