Indian Times: Judge Wants Class-Action Suit Decided (Mar 14, 2008)
On Indian Times this weekend, Susan Shannon reports on a new federal trial date for a 12-year-old class-action lawsuit brought by thousands of Indians against the U.S. government. The plaintiffs contend that decades of mismanagement of Indian oil and gas leases, coal sales, grazing lands and timber harvesting have resulted in millions of dollars in lost income to individual Indians. We also report on Oklahoma tribe-owned casinos reporting increased income from out-of-state gamblers. And we hear about composer Jerod Tate, a Chickasaw who has found a way to bring together his love of his tribal music and classical music.
