Indian Times: Tribal Elections in Indian Country (Jun 15, 2009)
This week on Indian Times, we?ll be hearing from Citizen Potawatomi Nation candidate for Chairmen, Jeremy Bertrand Finch, Finch will discuss why he?s running. The Citizen Potawatomi Nation?s headquarters are in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The are the largest employer in Potawatomi County. A Navajo Code talker from World War II passed away last week. Willie K. Begay (pictured above) was part of the original group recruited to develop what became an unbreakable code that confounded the Japanese. Begay was part of the elite group of Navajo Marines, he received a Congressional Silver Medal in recognition of his service in 2001. Begay died after a battle with cancer in Pinon, Arizona.

The Native American Journalists Association will be holding their 25th Anniversary Convention in Albuquerque July 30th thru August 1st. The early bird registration has been extended to June 15th and the application date for students to receive a scholarship to attend the training component of the conference, has been extended to June 22nd.
