The Big Read: The Maltese Falcon (Mar 14, 2010)
In 1930, Samuel Dashiell Hammett published The Maltese Falcon and it quickly became the new standard of crime novels -- with hard-boiled private detective, Sam Spade and its themes of desire and honor, and personal moral codes. The Maltese Falcon is the 2010 selection by the Pioneer Library System for The Big Read this spring, as part of the National Endowment for the Arts' national Big Read event. The Pioneer Library System has a wide range of events this month and next centered on The Maltese Falcon. Joining us at the KGOU Studios were panelists J. Madison Davis, Professor of Professional Writing at the University of Oklahoma, Marla Johnson, Book Review Editor for World Literature Today, and OU students Kerri Shadid and Chris Dearner.
