State Lawmakers Consider Bill to Regulate Tattoo Parlors (Mar 15, 2005)
Oklahoma is the only state in the nation where tattoo parlors are still illegal, but it may not hold that distinction for much longer. State House Representative Al Lindley has introduced a bill to legalize and regulate the practice, and he has the backing of the Oklahoma Health Department. Advocates argue that regulation is necessary to stem the spread of infectious diseases like HIV and hepatitis C, but some opponents cite their moral and religious objections to tattoos. Interviewees include State Representative Al Lindley (D-OKC), tattooist Jerry McKinley and State Representative Thad Balkman (R-Norman)
