State Lottery and Tribal Gaming to Raise Money for Education (Feb 03, 2005)
Last November, close to sixty percent of state voters approved ballot measures permitting increased tribal gaming, slot machines at racetracks and the creation of a lottery. A portion of the proceeds will be used to fund improvements in the state's education system. Tribal casinos have only just begun allowing poker and blackjack, and the lottery isn't expected to start until next fall, but discussions about how the revenue will be spent are already hot topics on the upcoming legislative agenda. Guests include Gary Green, President and CEO of Absentee Shawnee Gaming Enterprises and General Manager of Thunderbird Casino; Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry and State Representative Thad Balkman.
