OK Lawmakers Oppose Mexican Free Trade Program (Apr 24, 2007)
About 75 truckers staged a protest on the steps of the state capitol earlier this week. They’re angry over a Bush Administration free trade plan that opens America’s borders and its highways to trucks from Mexico, allowing them to travel beyond their current 20 mile limit. As Todd Zwillich reports, the plan is also controversial in Washington, where some lawmakers are making moves to force a delay. Guests include trucker John Fitzgerald, USDOT’s Bill Quaid, US Representative Mary Fallin, US Senator Jim Inhofe, Oklahoma Highway Patrol commercial truck inspection unit commander Captain Craig Medcalf and Virgina truck inspection station chief Ezra Randle.
