Oklahoma Watches as Census Bureau
Gears Up for 2010 Count (Jan 02, 2008)

Shortly before leaving for its holiday break, the US Senate confirmed Steven Murdock, President Bush’s choice as new head of the Census Bureau. Preparations are already underway for the 2010 census, which is expected to be the most expensive, most high-tech population count ever. Oklahoma has a lot at stake, like representation in Congress and federal funding for vital programs. So reports of cost-overruns, gadgets that don’t work, and a shake-up at the top are worrisome. Elizabeth Wynne Johnson reports from Capitol Hill. Guests include Senator Susan Collins of Maine, incoming Census Bureau Chief Steven Murdock, Oklahoma Commerce Department spokeswoman Leslie Blair and US Rep. Mike Conaway (R-TX).
