Feed the Children Lawsuit Dismissal Upheld (Nov 10, 2010)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A federal appeals court has upheld dismissal of a libel lawsuit filed by the son of the founder of Oklahoma City-based charity Feed the Children against some former board members.

The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday affirmed a lower court ruling dismissing the lawsuit filed by Allen Jones, son of Feed the Children founder Larry Jones.

Allen Jones filed the lawsuit in May 2009. It alleged that his sister, Larri Sue Jones, the charity's former general counsel, hurt his reputation with a statement to directors in April 2008 that he "had been diagnosed as bipolar."

The discussion became public in a separate Oklahoma County lawsuit to resolve a power struggle within the charity. The appellate court ruled the statement was not defamatory under state law.
