OKC School District Moving to Year-round Classes (Dec 14, 2010) OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma City Public Schools are moving to year-round classes. The school board voted unanimously Monday to move away from the traditional school calendar to what it calls a "continuous learning calendar." Starting with the 2011-12 school year, 69 district school sites will join seven sites already using the new calendar. The plan calls for the traditional summer break tol be reduced by a month. The time will be used to create a two-week fall break and extend the winter and spring breaks by a week apiece. Students still will attend school for the same number of days. District Superintendent Karl Springer says the new calendar will have a positive effect on student growth and achievement because less time will be spend re-teaching concepts students have forgotten during the summer. « back |
