State Officials Reach Agreement on Amtrak Depot (Dec 21, 2010)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma transportation officials say they've reached agreement with the owner of the Santa Fe Train Depot in Oklahoma City that will keep the depot open for Amtrak passengers.

Depot owner Brent Brewer locked the depot twice during the week before this year's Oklahoma-Texas football game and Heartland Flyer passengers were taken to Fort Worth, Texas, by van and bus. Brewer said state transportation officials had failed to respond to his request for a new lease agreement.

Oklahoma Department of Transportation deputy director Mike Patterson told The Oklahoman the new agreement gives the state control of the depot and parking lot for 25 months with two five-year renewal options. The state will pay $15,297 a month in rent.

The Heartland Flyer provides daily service between Oklahoma City and Fort Worth.
