Flu Closes Fifth Oklahoma School (Jan 26, 2011)

PORUM, Okla. (AP) - Another Oklahoma school district is canceling or postponing classes and other activities because of a high incidence of influenza.

Porum’s Superintendent told the Muskogee Phoenix his district will cancel classes for the rest of the week because of an increasing number of flu-related absences.

The school says 130 of the district's 500 students were absent Monday, and that number jumped to 196 on Tuesday. Teachers and bus drivers also have been affected.

Officials of the Thomas-Fay-Custer School District canceled classes on Friday after more than 100 of the 450 students were out the previous day.

Other districts that closed because of the flu last week were Binger-Oney, Dewar and Stroud.
