State Senate Panel Plans Redistricting Hearings (Feb 15, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The state Senate committee charged with redrawing the legislative and congressional district boundaries is holding a series of public meetings across the state.

The Senate Committee on Redistricting is tasked with redrawing Senate district boundaries and working with a similar House panel to come up with five congressional districts.

The committee received the latest U.S. Census data on Tuesday and announced its meeting schedules.

Meetings will be held Thursday in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, and Friday in Poteau. Next week, meetings will be held on Feb. 24 in Ardmore, and Feb. 25 in Woodward and Altus.

State lawmakers are required to redraw state and congressional districts every 10 years following completion of the U.S. Census.
