World Views: Foreign Policy in Midterm Elections, Blogger and UM Professor Juan Cole (Aug 16, 2010)
The 2010 midterm elections are now underway in the U.S., but unlike previous elections in 2004, 2006, and 2008, foreign policy is not expected to be a deciding issue when voters choose their elected officials. World Views host Zach Messitte attributes this drop off to both domestic issues with the economy and healthcare, as well as a lack of US foreign policy success. Joshua Landis examines President Obama's speech in Cairo one year later, and the aftermath of Obama's message of mutual respect. Mike Boettcher discusses a new project he launches next month in conjunction with ABC News and the University of Oklahoma. And University of Michigan History Professor Juan Cole talks about his book Engaging the Muslim World. Since 2002, he's written the award-winning blog Informed Comment.
