Homes, schools in Harrah Evacuated (Mar 11, 2011)

HARRAH, Okla. (AP) — Residents of an Oklahoma City suburb waited for word on when they would be allowed to return to their homes after they were forced out by a large grass fire in the area.

Classes at Harrah High School were dismissed and Harrah Junior High School were taken to an elementary school as flames from the blaze moved closer Friday afternoon. Emergency medical crews also took residents of nursing homes and assisted living centers to other facilities away from danger.

There were no reports of injuries.

Resident Billie Hicks and his family left their neighborhood before the fire could reach them. Hicks didn't know the fate of his home of five months, but he feared the worst.

His previous house was destroyed in the May 10 tornado outbreak last year.
