House Passes Income Tax Compliance Bill (Apr 21, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma House has passed legislation that requires state employees and elected officials to comply with state income tax laws or risk losing their jobs.

The House voted 85-6 for the measure Thursday and sent it to the Senate for consideration.

The bill by Rep. Dank of Oklahoma City says state employees who have been notified three times they are not in compliance with state income tax laws and have not responded to the notices will be terminated.

It also says elected officials who are out of compliance with state income tax requirements must resign from their office.

Although the bill passed overwhelmingly, some lawmakers said the bill contains no procedures for forcing a state official to resign. Dank says officials who do not resign voluntarily could be impeached.
