OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma Senate has given final approval to legislation that moves Oklahoma's presidential primary from February to March.

The Senate approved the House-passed measure Monday and sent it to Gov. Mary Fallin to be signed into law.

The measure's authors, Sen. David Holt of Tulsa and Rep. Gary Banz of Midwest City, say new rules adopted by Republicans and Democrats require Oklahoma and other states to move their primaries to March if they want to participate in the national conventions.

Under the new national rules, only Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada can have presidential primaries in February. Oklahoma's primary will be the first Tuesday in March, the earliest date allowed.

Banz says passage of the measure assures the state will participate in the Republican and Democratic national conventions.
