Eastern Okla. Counties Have Highest Unemployment (Apr 28, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Eastern Oklahoma continues to have the highest unemployment rates in the state.

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission says Sequoyah County had the highest jobless rate in March, 9.9 percent. Other counties with high unemployment rates were Latimer and Okmulgee counties, both at 9.7 percent; McCurtain County at 9.4 percent and Hughes County at 9.2 percent.

The county with the lowest unemployment rate was Roger Mills County in western Oklahoma, 2.6 percent. Other counties with low jobless rates were Grant County, 2.8 percent and Beaver County in the Oklahoma Panhandle, 2.9 percent.

The overall unemployment rate in March for Oklahoma was 6.1 percent.
