Abortion Rights Group Plans Rally at State Capitol (May 12, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Abortion rights activists are planning a rally at the Oklahoma Capitol to decry what they say is the Legislature's "war on women."

Several abortion rights groups, including Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma, will stage the rally at noon on Thursday.

Organizers say the group is targeting a proposed measure to de-fund several women's health programs, including Planned Parenthood of Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma.

The group also is complaining about what they describe as "outrageous" legislation passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature that further restricts abortion in the state.

Republican Gov. Mary Fallin has signed bills this year to make it a felony for doctors to perform an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy and prohibiting standard health insurance policies from covering abortions.
