Drumright Teen Faces Murder Charge in Copper Theft (Jun 13, 2011)

DRUMRIGHT, Okla. (AP) — A felony murder charge has been filed against a 19-year-old Drumright resident for his alleged involvement in an attempt to steal copper that led to the death of an accomplice.

Police say 18-year-old Cody Holland was electrocuted May 26 during an attempt to steal copper from a transformer. The Tulsa World reports that Jacob Lee Matherly was charged Friday with felony murder

State law allows for a murder charge if a person is killed during the commission of a felony.

Police said after the incident that the transformer was behind a chain-link fence with a high-voltage sign along an oil lease road.
